The course analyses ethnographic cinema, especially in Italy, also focusing on its relation with fiction film and contemporary culture. The course aims to provide knowledge and methodological tools to develop critical consideration of production and styles of ethnographic cinema.

Through the analysis of the key elements of ethnographic cinema, the course investigates the nature and characters of this field of documentary production. The second part of the course focuses on the Italian production of the 1950s and 1960s, also investigating its relations and influences with the documentary cinema of the period and, more generally, with the cultural production and socio-political context of the time.Core Documentation
