The Course provides a map – all along with a genealogical approach to the considered conceptual tools – of the main debates in contemporary Political philosophy concerning single issues, that will be identified every year.
The Course is intended to the acquisition of:
an in-depth knowledge of authors and texts in contemporary Political philosophy;
critical and interpretative conceptual tools both in reading and in debating;
skills in the written exposition of the considered issues.

The course is intended to provide an overview—with the related historical-conceptual genealogies—of contemporary philosophical-political debates concerning problematic fields defined from year to year.
Academic year 2026-27 - Cosmopolitics
From what position do we think about and constitute the problems to be addressed? The course explores the different spatial dimensions and related epistemologies present in contemporary philosophical and political analyses. Is it possible that we are developing a "planetary consciousness"? While policies insisting on the military defense of borders and national spaces are returning, everyday life simultaneously confronts us with continuous perceptual boundary crossings brought about by the climate crisis. How should we think about these intersections?
If the world refers to a dwelling constituted by human meaning and history, if the globe appears to bring us back to a homogeneous spatial dimension, thinking about politics from the planetary dimension can open up an ancient and unprecedented perspective. The course will host a study day with the participation of scholars who are experts in the topics addressed.

A written paper (approx. 30,000 characters) on the topics and texts of the course, to be discussed in the oral examination, is required. The paper must be submitted ten days before the chosen exam date by email to: federica.giardini@uniroma3.it In the evaluation of the exam, the determination of the final grade will take into account several elements, such as: Level and quality of knowledge of the topics; Ability to analyze a theme critically; Logic of the arguments supporting a thesis; Ability to apply theories and concepts to contexts; Use of vocabulary appropriate to the discipline under study.
