From the entertainment society to the consumer society
The course examines key texts by Jean Baudrillard to focus on the transition from the society of the spectacle to the consumer society—where commodities take on the value of signs and the social dissolves into the masses—resulting (both practically and theoretically) in the dissolution of the paradigm of reality (whether objective, social, or economic) into a transparent hyperreality, wherein the modern subject evaporates and transforms into a mere combination of data at the disposal of mechanisms of domination.
