20110459 - International and European human rights law

The course is aimed at familiarising participants with the legal issues relating to the protection of human rights at the international and European level, and enabling them to acquire the skills of identifying, evaluating and using international and European human rights law material, so as to employ this competence within international (governmental or non-governmental) organisations, national ministries and other institutions, national and international courts and tribunals, and the practice of domestic and international law.

- Object, purpose and general features of international law rules concerning human rights
- The protection of human rights under general international law
- Human Rights in the UN system
- The International Covenants on Civil and Political Rights, and on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights
- Crimes against humanity: international prevention and prosecution
- Human rights at the European level: the Council of Europe
- The European Convention on Human Rights and the Strasbourg Court
- Fundamental Rights within the EU legal order and practice
- Implementation and importance of international and European human rights law in the Italian legal order

Special focus on the protection of social rights in Europe and the European Social Charter system
