The course aims at introducing the students to the knowledge and comprehension of the foundations of private law, i.e. the fundamental concepts and legal rules governing private law relationships between individuals and corresponding remedies.

The course offers the framework of the Roman provative legal system, not disregarding a correct framing between sources and interpretation, with a special focus on the role of the procedural perspective as the central perspective for the creation and development of ius privatorum romanorum.
In detail, the teaching aims to illustrate the elementary regime of individual institutes of Roman private law.

Course subject matter:
- General historical background (4 hours)
- Sources of law (6 hours)
- Process ( 6 hours)
- Legal facts and transactions (4 hours)
- Persons and family: main concepts (6 hours)
- Things, real rights, possession (6 hours)
- Obligations (10 hours)
- Donations: main concepts (2 hours)
- Mortis causa successions: main concepts (4 hours)
