Programme

Linear Algebra:
Matrices. Determinants. Rank. Linear systems. Vector spaces. Linear applications. Eigenvalues and eigenvectors.
Diagonalization. Scalar product. Symmetric operators.
Geometry:
Affine geometry of the plane and space. Euclidean geometry of the plane and space.

Core Documentation

Any book dedicated to Engineering classes of Linear Algebra can be freely chosen.

SUGGESTED:
M. Abate Algebra Lineare McGraw-Hill Education con Marco Abate, Chiara de Fabritiis Esercizi di Geometria , McGraw-Hill Education

or:
F. Flamini, A. Verra: Matrici e vettori. Corso di base di geometria e algebra lineare. Carocci.
Also suggested:

E. Schlesinger: Algebra lineare e geometria, Zanichelli.
L. Mauri e E. Schlesinger: Esercizi di algebra lineare e geometria, Zanichelli.
F. Bottacin Linear Algebra and Geometry Esculapio Soc. Ed.
F. Bottacin Exercises in Linear Algebra and Geometry Esculapio Soc. Ed.

Type of delivery of the course

Lessons in presence, 4 or 5 hours per week, according to the academic calendar. Self-assessment exercises will be assigned to be carried out at home. It is suggested to study and practice the topics as they are presented.

Attendance

optional, strongly recommended

Type of evaluation

Multiple choice test on the Moodle platform (armoured) to achieve a score of 24/30. Once a score of 24/30 has been passed, one can access the second part of the written test, consisting of an open-ended paper exercise. The written test consists of open-ended calculation and theoretical questions. Doubtful cases may be discussed in an oral interview with the student. Both the tests and the open questions are aimed at evaluating: logical correctness, mastery of the topics, correctness of the calculations, quality of the graphic presentation of the work, if requested in paper form.
