20810200 - INTEGRATED DIGITAL SYSTEMS

The course aim is to improve the students' knowledge in digital electronics, from basic components to complex systems. Particular attention will be given to recent applications like FPGAS and ASICS and will be given basic knowledge about current digital communication standards such as USB, Ethernet and LVDS.

Transistor-level implementation of basic logic gates
Transistor-level implementation of pass transistors, transmission gates, latches, flip-flops, and three-state buffers
Study of complex logic gates
Memories: ROM, SRAM, DRAM, EPROM, EEPROM, Flash; 6T and 1T memory cells
Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU)
Fundamentals of VHDL
FPGA devices: logic blocks, interconnections, and I/O blocks
VHDL examples for FPGA implementation: clock dividers, serial interfaces, and mini-ALUs
Serial communications: RS-232, LVDS, USB (brief overview of the ISO/OSI model)
