20810116 - TECHNICAL DRAWING

Students will acquire basic knowledge in industrial design and drafting, with particular reference to the mechanical application field.
The course aims at providing the students with the acquisition of basic skills for drawing all the main machine components and understanding drawings already made by others. After a brief introduction to the geometrical bases, it treats, according to the international standards, the rules and norms for the right representation of each component, by accounting for the function it plays into the device or assembly and for the cycle it experiences during its manufacturing.
Students follow a practical training performing hand sketches.

Prerequisiti

Basic concepts of analytical and descriptive geometry. Knowledge of Cartesian planes, point coordinates, key constructions of regular polygons inscribed in circles (such as the hexagon and pentagon), and the method of orthogonal projections. Ability to frame a drawing sheet and use basic drawing tools on paper, such as a compass and 45° and 30°/60° set squares.

Core Documentation

In addition to the lecture slides available on the course's Moodle site, we highly recommend deepening your understanding of the subject with a reference textbook. Students can choose between two reference texts in Italian: one in two volumes and the other in a single volume.

Attendance

Attendance is optional but strongly recommended.

Type of evaluation

The learning-level assessment consists of a written test and an oral test, each conducted on a separate day. To access the oral exam, the student must pass the written test with a grade of at least 18/30. The written test involves orthographically representing a mechanical component, according to ISO standards in the mechanical drawing sector, on a technical hand-drawn drawing; therefore, the student must come to class equipped with drawing sheets and all necessary materials. The subsequent oral exam, on the other hand, consists of questions covering the entire Drawing program. The final grade is expressed as a score from 18/30 to 30/30, with the possibility of honors. The highest grade is awarded when the student demonstrates a thorough understanding of all topics covered during the course and achieves a high level of competence in applying theoretical methods. Honors are reserved for those who master the topics and tools, go beyond the required results, demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the subject, and exhibit strong expressive, analytical, and re-elaboration skills.
