COURSE PURPOSE: The Course in Plastics Processing Technologies provides students with the basic knowledge to navigate the plastics processing processes. Specifically, the course allows the acquisition of knowledge on the processing technologies of polymeric and composite materials, materials that occupy an increasingly significant weight in modern manufacturing processes. It is, therefore, a complementary course to Mechanical Technology which, on the other hand, teaches only about the conventional transformation processes of metals. The Plastic Materials Processing Technologies Course therefore includes elements relating to the extrusion and molding processes of the main plastic materials, as well as the forming processes of composite materials.
DETAILED COURSE CONTENT: Manufacturing processes of polymeric materials. Classification of polymeric materials. Recall of the main technological properties. Extrusion. Blown extrusion. Extrusion and blow moulding. Calendering. Fiber manufacturing process. Injection moulding. Blow molding. Rotation molding. Compression molding. Transfer moulding. Thermoforming. Cast forming processes. Foaming processes. Junction of plastic materials. Manufacturing processes of composite materials. Classification of composite materials. Recall of the main technological properties. Contact, compression and vacuum molding processes. Molding processes of liquid composite materials. Foam injection molding. Pipe stamping. Prepreg manufacturing process. Filament winding. Pultrusion.
