20810550-1 - DIGITAL COMMUNICATIONS

The course allows you to acquire specific knowledge of the basic techniques for transmitting information on digital connections and the principal methodologies for designing point-to-point and point-to-multipoint connections using digital techniques.

Curriculum

teacher profile | teaching materials

Programme

The course introduces the fundamental aspects of information transmission methods on digital channels, also in reference to the recent 5G and B5G communication systems. Starting from the concepts previously acquired, related to signal theory, this course presents the main baseband and bandpass modulation techniques, the theory of the optimal receiver, the broadband transmission techniques, and the fading channels. The objectives of the course are that students acquire (i) the fundamental aspects of data transmission techniques on digital links, also in emerging Beyond5G (B5G) scenarios, and (ii) the ability to apply analytical tools to design channel models for next-generation application scenarios.

Core Documentation

- Proakis, "Digital communications"
- Notes edited by the lecturer

Attendance

in presence

Type of evaluation

The course includes an oral test
