Providing students with notions about the environmental impacts related to anthropic activities, classifying and describing the impacts, also illustrating the sustainability concept, and describing environmental impact assessment procedures and environmental certification protocols. Describing the Sustainable Development Goals of United Nations 2030 Agenda. Illustrating the concept of environmental footprint (carbon and water footprint) and Life Cycle Analysis (LCA). Describing the Green Economy sectors, with regard to renewable energy sources and sustainable transport, and the related energy, environmental and economic effects. Illustrating, by means of significant case studies, examples of environmental impact assessment and impact mitigation, with special regard to marine and coastal applications.
teacher profile teaching materials
The course provides an overview of the principles of sustainability and the tools for assessing environmental impact. After an introduction to the fundamental concepts, the course explores environmental impact indicators and the main issues related to global, atmospheric, acoustic, and marine pollution.
It examines methodologies for environmental and strategic impact assessment. Additionally, it covers physical phenomena related to heat transfer, such as conduction, convection, and radiation, as well as the urban heat island effect. The course includes an in-depth study of building physics, energy simulation, and instrumental energy diagnosis techniques. Finally, it presents methods for measuring the energy performance of buildings, including the heat flux meter method, the thermometric method, and infrared thermography.
