To learn the basic concepts of measurement and uncertainty, also within a statistical approach. To critically apply those concepts to the acquisition, analysis and interpretation of experimental data, with particular emphasis on electrical and electronic quantities.

Introduction to Metrology. Systems of units, International System of Units, conversions. Errors, uncertainty. Fundamentals of statistics, statistical description of the uncertainty. Data analysis, fitting procedures, tests.
Electromechanical instruments. Electronics instruments. Analog oscilloscope.
Converters and digital instrumentation: typical errors and uncertainties.
Sampling: aliasing, windowing.
Measuring methods of electrical quantities. Null methods.
Electrical noise.

Type of delivery of the course

Class teaching. Remote lessons. Laboratory practice.

Type of evaluation

Written exercises or, alternatively, evaluation of the reports on the assignments, and final interview.
