The course of history of Eastern and South Eastern Asia falls within the domain of the complementary learning activities of the Degree Course in Languages and Cultural-Linguistic Mediation, specifically among the complementary activities aiming at providing basic notions in the historical-political field.
The course aims to provide skills for the critical analysis of Chinese and Far Eastern history through the illustration and comparison between the Chinese Imperial era and the Republican period. It also aims to provide a knowledge of the cultural traditions, both Chinese and external, and their influence on the codification and legitimization of the Chinese imperial political culture before the transition to a national culture and up to the development of a modern Chinese state within the international order.

The assessment of learning outcomes will be conducted through an oral examination. The exam aims to evaluate in detail the following aspects: 1. Mastery of chronology, periodization, key events, and relevant personalities in modern and contemporary Chinese history. 2. The ability to contextualize a specific event, institution, or personality within the temporal and geographical framework of Chinese history, from the late empire to the present day. 3. The ability to identify and understand the major factors influencing processes and events in modern and contemporary Chinese history. 4. Knowledge and the ability to critically analyze the texts listed in the bibliography.
