One of the main aims of this Course of Study is the acquisition of competences in two foreign languages, which is based on the development of the four written-oral skills in reception and production, to analyse the study of intercultural and transcultural phenomena through the tools and methodologies of linguistic and philological analysis, as well as the theory and practice of translation. The teaching of Language and Translation - Portuguese Language I is one of the core educational activities of the ‘Languages and Translation’ sector and aims at the objective described above. The course aims to provide students with B1-level language skills (based on the CEFR) and linguistic-argumentative strategies in the language. It also aims to develop the ability to reflect on both the cultural context and the structures (phonetic, morphological and syntactic) of the language being studied, also initiating the student into the development of the integrated competence of Portuguese/Italian translation practice. The student will be able to: put the acquired linguistic and communicative skills (active, passive and mixed) into practice; the ability to analyze and understand texts, also from a contrastive point of view, will be stimulated; he/she will be able to reformulate/re-formulate discourse autonomously; he/she will also possess an initial intercultural competence.

Programme
The course provides a comprehensive introduction to the fundamentals of the Portuguese language, with a particular focus on its essential structures. Learning will begin with the study of phonetics and phonology, aimed at developing correct pronunciation and the ability to recognize sounds. The course will then delve into syntax, exploring sentence construction and the relationships between linguistic elements.
