One of the main aims of this Course of Study is the acquisition of competences in two foreign languages, which is based on the development of the four written-oral skills in reception and production, to analyse the study of intercultural and transcultural phenomena through the tools and methodologies of linguistic and philological analysis, as well as the theory and practice of translation. “German Language and Translation I” belongs to the core courses of the "Language and translation" area and targets the above-mentioned purpose. The aim of the module is to provide students with level A2 language skills (based on the CEFR) and communicative strategies in German. It also aims to develop reflection on the cultural context and phonological-morphological structures of contemporary German. Moreover, the module seeks to enhance the ability to read simple texts using inference techniques. Students will also gain initial intercultural competence by familiarising themselves with German-speaking countries and the polycentric character of the German language.

Programme

The module, supported by CEL exercises to achieve the required language levels, serves as an introduction to the analytical knowledge of contemporary German, focusing on phonological structures (analysis of the articulation of linguistic sounds, their phonetic transcription), orthography, and morphological structures, with particular attention to word formation processes. An in-depth study will be dedicated to text comprehension through inference and grammatical analysis. Especially in the assisted teaching phase, the module includes exercises aimed at developing and/or refining written production and oral expression.
