One of the general objectives of the degree course is the acquisition of proficiency in two foreign languages, which is based on the development of the four active and passive oral-writing skills, for the study of intercultural and transcultural phenomena through the tools and methodologies of linguistic and philological analysis, as well as translation theory and practice. The teaching of Language and Translation - Portuguese and Brazilian Language III is one of the core educational activities of the ‘Languages and Translation’ sector and aims at the objective described above. The course aims to enable students to acquire language skills level C1 (based on the CEFR) and to deepen their linguistic-argumentative strategies in the language. It also aims to further develop the ability to orientate in the linguistic context in view of the pluricentric dimension of the Portuguese language, paying particular attention to the phenomena linked to the emergence of African varieties, as well as to consolidate meta-textual reflection skills. The student will be able to: put into practice the acquired linguistic and communicative skills (active, passive and mixed); deepen the translation problems related to diversified textual genres, also in a transmedia perspective; interpret reality from a plurilingual and pluricultural perspective thanks to an enhanced intercultural competence; he will also possess consolidated communicative and argumentative skills. The course aims at analysing the Portuguese language in literary texts. Syntactic functions, language production in interaction and forms of textual organisation will be analysed, emphasising syntactic, marked and unmarked constructions.Core Documentation

Type of delivery of the course

Attendance is not compulsory; however, the submission of writing and translation exercises during the course will be used to distinguish between attending and non-attending students. For the latter, the examination will not entail any form of exemption and will therefore cover all the course modules.Type of evaluation
The written and oral examinations are aimed at assessing the achievement of the expected learning outcomes. For the oral test, the student must produce a paper analysing a dialogue interaction chosen from a dialogue of a literary or filmic nature (passing the partial exemption makes the paper optional).
