Programme

The course aims to reflect on the racial question in Brazil in the decades between the 19th and 20th centuries. The analysis of some novels and short stories will highlight how the idea of nationhood and the ideal of order and progress is deeply linked to the racial theories developed after the abolition of slavery (1888).
