Graduates in Languages and Literatures for Teaching and Translation obtain advanced knowledge and understanding in all the subject areas of their training in order to
1) consolidate and develop their competence in European and American Studies, with particular attention to their literature of specialisation;
2) deepen their knowledge of the two foreign languages chosen, achieving a heightened competence in the language of specialization and an advancement in the second language;
3) reach enhanced awareness of the linguistic features of their language of specialisation, both from a diachronic and a synchronic perspective;
4) reach an adequate knowledge of the most advanced methodologies for the analysis of literary texts;
5) handle confidently the theoretical-practical tools for teaching and for translation.
Geschichte der Übersetzungstheorien/ History of translation theories is one of the characterising modules of the programme. Its aim is to refine advanced knowledge in the theory of translation from a historical perspective and to consolidate language skills (C1+ of the CEFR) and translation skills, also applicable to the intersemiotic and intermediate dimension. It also allows students to further consolidate the knowledge of teaching tools, while refining transversal skills aimed at forming an independent critical opinion and an independent and flexible use of the acquired critical tools.
At the end of the module students will be able to: transpose, subtitle, adapt and translate literary texts for theatre, cinema or other cultural events; apply theoretical and methodological tools to the context of German language teaching.
Requirements: Students must have already taken Übersetzungstheoretische Ansätze in der Gegenwart/ Translation theoretical approaches in the present.

Programme
Is there currently a 'theory of translation'? Surely there are many theoretical approaches to this activity, often strongly divergent. The class offers a diachronic and synchronic overview of the different paths of translation theory and also presents dictionaries and translation tools. You will deal with the translation from German into Italian of different textual varieties. There will be periodic verifications with in-depth analysis of individual essays.Core Documentation

Programme
In today's globalized world, multilingualism is frequently discussed. But what does it mean to grow up, live, and think multilingually? How does multilingualism manifest in translation theory and practice? In the first part of the course, biographical approaches to multilingualism will be examined based on sociolinguistic research. Ideological constructs, such as the dominance of a national language, will also be critically questioned; the Austrian education system will serve as a case study. In the second part of the course, the focus will be on multilingualism in literature: not only the writing practices of multilingual authors but also translation concepts and theories that arise "between languages" (translinguism) will be explored.Core Documentation

Type of evaluation
A final written test of literary translation from German to Italian, in addition to the oral exam about course contents with the teacher. The classes of the German native-speaker teachers form an integral part of the course and begin at the start of the academic year, with tests at the end.
