Graduates in Languages and Literatures for Teaching and Translation obtain advanced knowledge and understanding in all the subject areas of their training in order to
1) consolidate and develop their competence in European and American Studies, with particular attention to their literature of specialisation;
2) deepen their knowledge of the two foreign languages chosen, achieving a heightened competence in the language of specialization and an advancement in the second language;
3) reach enhanced awareness of the linguistic features of their language of specialisation, both from a diachronic and a synchronic perspective;
4) reach an adequate knowledge of the most advanced methodologies for the analysis of literary texts;
5) handle confidently the theoretical-practical tools for teaching and for translation.
Literatur und Transkulturalität/ Literature and transculturality is one of the characterising modules of the programme. The aim of the course is to develop at very advanced levels the linguistic-communicative skills and specialist competences in the analysis of media and intercultural dynamics related to the literature and culture of German-speaking countries, as well as their cultural geographies and the problems of cultural identity, with in-depth attention to the problems of translation and didactics of literature. The course also allows students to acquire a high capacity to perfect their own theoretical and methodological skills, as well as to use the tools of philological and critical-literary analysis critically for the interpretation of cultural phenomena, in particular the processes of transcultural translation and the dynamics of communication between different forms of media.
At the end of the module students will be able to: analyse the media and intercultural dynamics of German-language literature; critically analyse cultural and communicative phenomena independently; translate; communicate content in the subject field at an advanced level.

The seminar is dedicated to literary representations of nature and its destruction - whether through human action or the forces of nature. The focus is on texts from different epochs that show nature as a threatened habitat, as a projection surface, but also as an uncontrollable destructive force. The texts analysed include nature idylls, crisis images, modern catastrophe narratives and contemporary literary reactions to environmental crises and climate change. The aim is to critically reflect on the relationship between humans and the environment in literary discourse and to analyse the aesthetic means with which literature reacts to ecological and existential threats.

Programme
This part of the course introduces the work of Christoph Ransmayr, which will be interpreted in the light of the most recent critical insights into the relationship between literature and ecology. Present in Ransmayr's work are the themes of the relationship between art, literature and the environment; the closely related theme of the metamorphosis of literary forms in interaction with the natural; and the relationship between narrative, geography and cartography expressed in the theme of the journey.Core Documentation
