For both curricula, the international one and the one focused on the teaching of Italian as a second language, graduates in Languages and Literatures for Teaching and Cultural Professions obtain advanced knowledge and understanding in all the subject areas of their training in order to 1) consolidate and develop their competence in European and American Studies, with particular attention to their literature of specialisation; 2) deepen their knowledge of the two foreign languages chosen, with the achievement of a high level of proficiency in the first language and an improved level in the second language for the MULTIPLE curriculum or in the single foreign language chosen for the DIL 2 curriculum; 3) reach enhanced awareness of the linguistic features of their language of specialisation, both from a diachronic and a synchronic perspective; 4) reach an adequate knowledge of the most advanced methodologies for the analysis of literary texts; 5) handle confidently the theoretical-practical tools for teaching and for translation. “Literatura y Arte” is among the core courses of the of the "Foreign Literature" area. Through the study of literary texts and artistic materials that draw from different genres (novel, short story, poetry, theater) and forms (plastic arts, performing arts, textiles, audiovisual, etc.), the course aims to provide students with advanced skills in the analysis of historical, political and social phenomena of the Spanish-American area in order to stimulate independent thinking on contemporary cultural processes. By consolidating the knowledge acquired during the triennial course, students will be expected to apply methodological and communicative skills in the teaching field; to deepen issues of a translanguaging nature; to present individual or group analytical work in the classroom; to convey disciplinary contents at an advanced linguistic level; and to interpret transcultural expressions of Hispanic American aerea with a critical perspective.
Prerequisites: students enrolled in other degree programmes are allowed to select this module if they have gained at least 12 CFU in Hispanic-American Literature in their bachelor’s degree, and can certify the attainment of a B2 level of Spanish. Note: For LM37 students enrolled in the international learning programme “Estudios Ibéricos e Iberoamericanos” (Spanish – Hispanic-American Literature), this module can be selected as an associated subject (‘materia affine’) to their literature of specialization

Programme

Through the study of literary texts and artistic materials that draw on different genres and forms, the course aims to provide students with a critical look at the historical, political and social phenomena of the Spanish-American area. Literature, performance art, textile art, and forms of artivism will be the tools of analysis to study contemporary culture, especially with reference to themes such as gender violence, enforced disappearances, dictatorships, migration, racism.

Regular attendance (at least 70%) is highly recommended and directs the student in personal study, which is in any case indispensable.

Type of evaluation

Verification of learning is by means of an oral examination lasting between 20 and 30 minutes. Non-attending students must contact the lecturer at least two months before the exam call.
