Acquisition of knowledge and operational skills related to observation as a technique to analyze infant behaviour, focusing on communicative and linguistic behavior.

By the study of Observational method in developmental psychology the student will be able to achieve the following training objectives.

- Knowledge and understanding:
Knowledge of method, techniques, tools for the psychological observation of children behaviors.

- Applying knowledge and understanding:
Capacity to apply the observational techniques for analyzing the children communicative and linguistic development.

- Making judgements:
Ability to choose the adequate techniques and assess the appropriateness of the observation procedures used.

- Communication skills:
Master the specific language of observational methods.

The laboratory present how to organize the observation of child behavior in educational contexts with the presentation of tools aimed at detecting communicative and linguistic development.
In particular the following topics are covered:

• Presentation of tools related to communication and linguistic development
• Data tabulation and identification of the development profile

Type of delivery of the course

The Laboratory includes lectures and exercises, both in groups and individually, in the presence and at a distance. A dedicated space is available on the formonline platform, in which the student can find the material presented in class, and communications about the course and the exam.

Type of evaluation

The exam includes an individual work and an oral examination. The work consists of an observation project and the presentation of a child's communicative-linguistic profile. The outline of the paper is available on formonline. For the presentation of a child's profile, the student can administer the PVB to the parents of a child or fill it out personally on a child she knows well, or use the questionnaires available on formonline. The individual work must be delivered at least one week before the scheduled exam date and following the instructions on formonline.
