Programme

This course aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the key dynamics that shaped the contemporary age, with particular focus on the evolution of states, social transformations, and processes of modernization between the 19th and 20th centuries. It also seeks to equip students with the analytical tools necessary to navigate the chronological and geographical framework of European and global history, fostering the development of critical and interpretive skills applicable to the study of contemporary phenomena.

Expected Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the course, students will:

- have developed a solid and critical knowledge of the major events and processes that defined contemporary history, with a specific focus on political, institutional, social, and economic transformations from the 1800s through the 1900s;

- be able to analyze historical processes linked to the formation of modern states, the emergence of new forms of social organization, and the dynamics of modernity from a comparative and interdisciplinary perspective.
