- Getting to know the debate about the teaching and learning of handwriting;
- getting to know the various approaches to the teaching and learning of handwriting;  
- getting to know the most recent approaches to the teaching and learning of handwriting.

- Understanding correct and wrong aspects in the development of the graphic gesture;
- understanding, through a critical analysis of doodling and manuscripts, aspects related to the correct learning of handwriting.

- Reflecting on the contemporary approaches to the teaching and learning of handwriting.

Programme

The course on "Educational research, teaching of writing and handwriting" is worth 6 ECTS. Starting from doodling in preschoolers and writing at school, the course will focus on the neurophysiological aspects of the graphic gesture with regards to the correct teaching and learning of writing. Besides, through a focus on research on handwriting, models and methodologies of empirical and experimental research will be proposed in order to analyse and improve handwriting skills.

Type of delivery of the course

Should the pandemic emergency by prolonged, all the activities will be done online.

Type of evaluation

The final exam will be a multiple choice test, lasting 45 minutes, and composed of 45 questions concerning the whole programme. Should the Covid-19 emergency be prolonged, there will be only an oral exam through the online platform Teams.
