to acquire the theoretical and methodological foundations of the study of docimology, with particular reference to docimological and assessment research; to identify the limitations of traditional assessment methods; to familiarise students with the main national and international surveys on school assessment; to identify suitable tools for data collection, including through comparison with the main international surveys; to analyse and interpret data on student learning.

- be familiar with the main international comparative studies on assessment;
- identify the theoretical and methodological foundations of international comparative studies on the assessment of learning.
In terms of the ability to apply knowledge and understanding:
- understand the drafting and administration of questions (types of stimuli and responses, paper-and-pencil and computer-based administration, marking procedures, coding of structured and semi-structured responses);
- understand the results of the major international comparative studies on the assessment of learning.
In terms of communication skills:
- be able to explain the results of learning assessment and evaluation to both specialists and non-specialists.
