The course aims at providing an in-depth knowledge of the formation process of the Italian political parties in modern politics together with their profile and role in Italy in the XIX and XX Century.

Programme

The course is divided in two parts.The first is devoted to learn the process of formation and the role of the Italian political parties in the XIX and XX Century, with reference to history of politics, of political cultures, of representation; citizens' organization and participation through parties, movements and associations. There is a specific focus on the birth of mass parties, fascism and parties' role in rebuilding democracy after the Second World War.
The second monographic part, examines the birth, development and crisis of the myth of the Nation in Italy's contemporary history.

Type of delivery of the course

Lectures with the help of audiovisuals. The method aims at letting students acquire knowledge that is essential to reach learning objectives and it stimulates students' active participation.

Attendance

Attendance is not mandatory.

Type of evaluation

The exam is oral. Criteria for evaluation are: knowledge and understanding of the program's content, clarity of the presentation, synthesis and analytical skills, linguistics skills. Attending students can take an oral test on a part of the program after about 2/3 of the course. In this case the final exam will only be about the remainder of the course. In case the student would not pass the test, s/he will still be able to take the whole exam according to regular exam sessions.
