21830030 - SOCIOLOGY OF POLITICS, LAW AND DEVIANCE

The course aims to analytically explore the main issues that link societal transformations with politics, law and the production of deviance. With an emphasis on a critical approach, the major themes of contemporary politics will be addressed, including the transformations of the state, justice, migration, labour, gender, processes of democratisation and democratisation, security, political cultures and ideologies, fundamental rights and the rule of law, the digital revolution and its consequences, processes of social inclusion and exclusion, and the neoliberalisation of institutions. Furthermore, the main nodes leading to the production of deviance and crime in contemporary societies will be addressed, understanding the criminal question itself as a political and legal issue.
