The course aims to provide students with an overview of naturally occurring compounds implicated in major biological processes, along with some aspects of their chemical behavior. Knowledge will be provided on the chemical synthesis of the main natural polymers through solid phase techniques and application of natural macromolecules in organic synthesis. Finally, we will know about the use of databases for the search for the chemical and biological properties of organic substances.

Type of delivery of the courseThe course is based lectures using pwp presentations. In the event of an extension of the COVID-19 health emergency, all the provisions governing the methods of carrying out the teaching activities will be implemented. The course will take place online on the Microsoft Teams platform.
Type of evaluationThe evaluation takes place through the presentation of a pwp lecture on a molecule of interest. Recent literature articles on the subject should be studied. The presentation must deal with: -the biosynthetic pattern, when known; -the biological effects on microorganisms, plants or animals; -any therapeutic or biological use specifying the biochemical and/or physiological role f the bioactive principle. In the event of an extension of the COVID-19 health emergency, all the provisions governing the methods for carrying out the student assessment will be implemented. In particular, an online presentation of the dissertation will be adopted on the Microsoft Team platform
