20401624 - GENERAL AND OCULAR PHYSIOLOGY

The learning objectives of the course are the development of knowledge related to: the eye as an integrated organ and the related organs that allow it to function; the bases of circulation physiology, respiration and excretion. Students will also acquire the skills necessary to understand the mechanisms underlying the nervous and muscular activity of the eye.

Cell physiology, cell membranes, osmosis, excitability of cells, cell metabolism. ,
Nervous system: - action potential, refractariety, synapses, reflexes, neurotransmitters and receptors
Muscles, contraction. Smooth and skeletal muscle working mechanisms
Breathing: Breathing physiology, excanges of gas
Kidney: philtration, absorbption, electrolitic homeostasis.
Heart functions, contractility mechanisms
Sensor Physiology: - Ihow nervous signals are decoded, sense organs. Olfactory, taste, hearing systems.
Visual system: retina functions and mecanismganglion cell functions and mechanisms of action, color vision, vision pathways and brain areas involved in.

Type of delivery of the course

The course is made by lectures, exercises and self evaluations. During some lectures, the teaching will be supported also by videos. In case Covid-19 emergency will be prolonged lectures will be done trough Microsoft Teams, self-evaluations and exercises through exam.net. All the teaching matherials will be available on Moodle e-learning.

Type of evaluation

During the course the students will face 3 auto-evaluation followed by 3 written tests. Each test is composed by 3 open questions, the value of each question is 10. The mean of the three tests is the final evaluation grade. There is also the possibility to do an oral exam about the full program. In case Covid-19 emergency will be prolonged the exams will be done orally through Microsoft Teams.
