20401624 - GENERAL AND OCULAR PHYSIOLOGY

The learning objectives of the course are the development of knowledge related to: the eye as an integrated organ and the related organs that allow it to function; the bases of circulation physiology, respiration and excretion. Students will also acquire the skills necessary to understand the mechanisms underlying the nervous and muscular activity of the eye.

• NERVOUS SYSTEM: - ACTION POTENTIAL, REFRACTORIES, SYNAPSES, REFLEXES, NEUROTRANSMITTERS AND RECEPTORS
• MUSCLES, CONTRACTION. SMOOTH AND SKELETAL MUSCLE WORKING MECHANISMS
• BREATHING: BREATHING PHYSIOLOGY, EXCHANGES OF GAS
• KIDNEY: FILTRATION, ABSORPTION, ELECTROLYTE HOMEOSTASIS.
•HEART FUNCTIONS, CONTRACTILITY MECHANISMS
• SENSOR PHYSIOLOGY: - HOW NERVOUS SIGNALS ARE DECODED, SENSE ORGANS. OLFACTORY, TASTE, HEARING SYSTEMS.

The course is conducted through in-person classroom lectures.

To attend the course is strongly suggested.

Type of evaluation

During the course, two written tests with 3 open-ended questions are scheduled. Each question is worth 10 points. The average score of the two tests represents the final grade. However, it is also possible to undergo a final evaluation by taking an oral exam covering the entire program.
