20440094 - GENERAL PHYSICS I

Provide fundamental knowledge of classical mechanics (energy conservation, translational and rotational motion) of rigid bodies, fluid dynamics, and the first law of thermodynamics, with special reference to geological applications. Provide basic knowledge of statistics and enable students to acquire basic statistical data processing skills

Type of delivery of the course

Standard lectures. Numerical exercises .

Attendance

Strongly recommended

Type of evaluation

The written exam consists in solving numerical problems and in answering to questions on the theory. An oral exam may follow, based on the evaluation of the problem sheet. Students who fulfill the attendance requirements may take two mid-term assessments. Successful completion of both tests entirely replaces the final exam.
