Programme

Cultural skills (Knowledge of:) Teaching aims to provide students with basic knowledge related to applied ecology, bioremediation and management of living natural resources, for a correct sustainable development.
Methodological skills (Knowing how to perform :) acquire and use experimental data for a rational exploitation of natural resources.
Teaching program:
Biogeochemical cycles with particular reference to the hydrological one and its sustainable management. History on the exploitation of natural living resources: from Gordon's theory to HORIZON 2020 (through sustainable development, the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment and ecosystem services). Principles of urban ecology and sustainable cities: Green City, Smart Economy and Citizen Science. Biomanipulation: from the Frankenstein effect to DAISIE (Delivering Alien Invasive Species Inventories for Europe). Bioturpation. Assessment of local and national socio-economic impacts. Naturalistic engineering principles. Eco-compatible farming activities. Traditional and renewable energy sources. Recycling of materials and resources. Biotechnology. Ecology of disturbance. Nature, origin, diffusion and effects of stressors. Definition and classification of environmental alteration (chronic and punctiformal disorders). DPSIR (determinants, pressures, state, impacts, responses) as a scheme approach to environmental problems: study and evaluation and environmental impact. Recovery techniques for resources and degraded environments: bioremediation and biorecovery. Spatial and landscape planning. What is a Management Plan. Information systems for the environment. Remote sensing. Cartography. GIS applied to ecology. Community and national regulatory framework. Main national institutions for environmental research and monitoring.
