20410182 - NATURAL AZARDS

THE AIM OF THIS SPECIALIST COURSE IS TO PROVIDE THE STUDENTS WITH AN OVERVIEW OF THE HAZARD AND RISK OF DIFFERENT NATURAL DISASTER AND THEIR SOCIAL IMPACT. STUDENTS WILL BE STIMULATED TO ANALYZE THE PROBLEMS AND PROPOSE THE RELATIVE SOLUTIONS.

Introduction: hazard and risk, historical perspective;
General concepts: Earth Science; energy and causes of natural hazards; managing, modelling and describing natural disasters; forecasting.
Analysis, physical understanding and social impact of the natural disasters in Earth science: earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunamis, landslides, hurricanes, floods, drought, climate changes, sea level changes.
Synthesis: towards a general and shared vision to mitigate natural disasters.
