The main educational goal of the genetics of microorganisms course is to provide students with knowledge on:
1) the prokaryotic genome and the mechanisms that ensure its replication, transcription, translation and integrity throughout generations;
2) the regulation mechanisms of the genetic expression in bacteria;
3) the mechanisms responsible for horizontal gene transfer (conjugation, transformation and transduction);
4) the molecular basis of cellular differentiation and adaptive response.
Students will also acquire basic knowledge on genetic engineering and omic approaches to study microbial communities.
