20702392 - PHILOLOGY AND DANTEAN CRITICISM

The aim of the course is the acquisition of the tools necessary for the critical-textual analysis of Dante's works (from the planning to the dissemination phase) and their fortune and exegesis over the centuries, through the use of predominantly philological and literary methods.

Programme

The lives of Dante between the 14th- and the 16th-century and the portraits of the poet from the 14th century to the present

The course will focus on Dante's biographies composed between the 14th to the 16th century by Giovanni Villani, Giovanni Boccaccio, Filippo Villani, Domenico Di Bandino, Leonardo Bruni, Giannozzo Manetti and Marcantonio Nicoletti. Dante’s iconography will furthermore be examined in its evolution from the famous portrait ascribed to Giotto and held today in the Bargello Museum to present-day representations.
