The student will acquire the cultural and methodological assumptions
of the study of Roman history and a solid knowledge of
its entire development (until the 6th century AD). It will also acquire
knowledge connected with the treatment in a monographic sense
of specific themes and problems of Roman history.

Programme

This course will provide an interpretation of the crisis of the Roman Republic.
Students will read some of the main ancient sources relating to this period (Plutarch, Sallust, etc.).
They will be introduced to the figure of Catiline and the way in which it is presented in Sallust's monograph and in Ciceronian orations.
