The course aims to bring the student closer to understanding Byzantine art in its various manifestations, offering methodological coordinates for the reading of the works and their study within the historical-artistic processes.

The course, which aims to provide students with a general knowledge of the history of Byzantine art from the 4th to the 14th century, will examine artefacts belonging to the various artistic genres (painting, sculpture, architecture, but also miniature, ivory, silver), paying specific attention to the orientations of the patrons and to works and monumental complexes paradigmatic of the Eastern Roman Empire.
