Programme

The course will address the history of the "long nineteenth century" (1789-1914), framing the study of the process of Italian unification in the broader international context which proposes, thanks to new studies on the nineteenth century, a global reading of the events concerning nations and empires in the 'Age of Revolutions. Seminars curated by the students are planned which, starting from the texts in the program and materials distributed by the teacher, will focus on:
- communication channels of the nineteenth-century "new politics": press and use of the image;
- the Roman Republic of 1849 as a "global case";
- Cavour, Garibaldi, Mazzini and Vittorio Emanuele II: reality and myth of the "Fathers of the Italian Fatherland".

Attendance

The attendance is optional, but highly recommended as laboratory and exercise activities are planned in preparation for the exam.

Type of evaluation

Verification of learning will take place through an oral exam concerning the entire program, including the discussion of the short written presentation of the student (see section C of the exam program for attending and non-attending students).
