The course aims to provide a general overview of constitutional history, sources of law, the organization of public powers, and the institutions of the State, the European Union, and the regions. It also aims to introduce and analyze the legislation designed to protect constitutionally guaranteed fundamental rights and freedoms. Finally, it aims to provide the basic principles of constitutional justice in Italy.

Programme
The course provides a general overview of the Italian legal system, tracing the historical development of the various forms of the State up to the adoption of the Republican Constitution of 1948. It examines the sources of law, the organization and balance of public powers, the role of the Regions and the European Union, the protection of fundamental rights and freedoms, and the essential features of constitutional review of legislation by the Constitutional Court.The course also offers further insights into recent and significant decisions of the Constitutional Court, as well as the ways in which constitutional values are promoted and disseminated in contemporary society.
