The course on Ancient Egypt and the Near East aims to provide fundamental knowledge of the region’s major civilizations, analyzing their historical development and their political, religious, and economic structures. Students will gain proficiency in the use of archaeological and textual sources, developing critical and interpretive skills. Particular attention will be given to cultural contexts, interactions between peoples, and the evolution of social and institutional structures.

Programme
The course is meant to be an introduction to the history, culture and religion of ancient Egypt, from the birth of urban civilization and the emergence of writing to the encounter with the classical world.Part of the course will be devoted to the study of basic elements of Egyptian grammar and hieroglyphic reading.Core Documentation
