The teaching of General Linguistics aims to provide the tools for analysis and theoretical and metalinguistic reflection on languages and language.
Teaching is divided into two channels, at the student's choice: channel I (“Typology, universals and brain”) and channel II (“Diachrony”).
The channel “Typology, Universals and Brain” aims to provide:
knowledge of the foundations of linguistic typology, with particular reference to morphological and syntactic types. Typology and universals. Biological bases of language.
The channel “Diachronia” aims to provide basic knowledge in relation to linguistic change, various levels of analysis, and comparison within Indo-European studies, with a focus also on areal and typological comparison.
Expected learning outcomes:
- channel I students will know the foundations of linguistic typology, typology and universals, and the biological bases of language;
- Channel II students will have basic knowledge of language change, the reconstruction of the phonological system of Indo-European, and genetic, areal, and typological comparison.
