THE COURSE PRESENTS SOME MAIN NOTIONS RELATING TO THE INDIVUAL-SOCIETY RELATIONSHIPS, BY DISCUSSING BOTH THE MORE RECENT SOCIAL AND PHILOSOPHICAL THEORIES AND SOME EXAMPLES FROM CLASSICAL AND MODERN ONES. THE GENERAL AIM IS THE USE OF SOME ANALYTICAL TOOLS IN ORDER TO HAVE A CRITICAL UNDERSTANDING OF CONTEMPORARY TOPICS.

The course will investigate the relationships between thinking and social, political transformation processes. In fact, on the one hand, thinking and conceputalisation go beyond the contingency of action and the immediate present time, while on the other hand, there are peculiar forms of social change that are creating new thinking patterns.
The course will consider five different revolutionary periods - English Revolution (1640-1651); French Revolution; 1848 and the Paris Commune (1871); Russian Revolutions (1905 and 1917); the long '68 - through a selected literature relating to each period.

Attending is not compulsory; though, participation in debate is warmly recommendedType of evaluation
The oral exam will be a discussion of a paper (30.000 digits). The paper can be either in Italian or in English/French/Spanish and has to be submitted ten days before, both to the mail address: federica.giardini@uniroma3.it and in the personal mailbox at the Department.
