The course aims to give students an advanced knowledge of the discipline and exercise the skills of students to contextualize the critical sources deepening the methodological aspects and gender.
Students will be directly involved in workshops to applying the acquired knowledge in the analysis of specific themes and periods, the critical lexicon; the figures of Italian, European and non-European critics, and to improve the skills about methods and the understanding of stylistic and cultural contexts.

The course aims to provide students with tools that allow them to acquire knowledge and critically analyze the sources related to the debate on styles, the system of the arts and the problems connected to the artistic production of the European and Italian eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
Particular attention will be devoted to a specific source: the journalism. During the course particular attention will be paid to the birth of art criticism and specialized artistic journalism; to the types and genres of public discourse on art by analyzing and comparing different critical experiments: the Parisian Salons and the criticism of Diderot; artistic journalism dedicated to contemporary artistic production.
