Type of delivery of the course

First semester: October 2020 - January 2021

Attendance

This seminar - destined only for frequenting students of the LM - will be organized in cooperation with the LM-Course in European Prehistory and Protohistory of Prof. A. Guidi concentrated on the argument of the formation of the Etruscan cities between the end of the Bronze Age and the early Iron Age. The students have to prepare a paper with powerpoint and bibliography on a single Etruscan city (in most cases belonging to the so-called Etruscan Dodekapolis). The seminar will will be developed with particular attention to the geographic area occupied by the Etruscan Dodecapolis, between Tuscany and northern Lazio, trying at the same time to analyze the areas concerned already in the protohistoric age with its expansion, such as the Po Valley and Campania. We will examine the characteristics of the urbanistic development and the organization of the spaces in the single Etruscan towns. Thanks to many excavations and researches during the last decades our knowledge in this field increased remarkably. The course includes both introductory lectures and seminars in which various case studies will be examined, organizing if possible also visits to museums and archaeological areas.
