Programme

“I will made of it, istead of a tragedy, a comic play”: Plautus’ Amphitruo. In the course a literary setting of the comedy will be offered, toghether with a close reading of the latin text, with italian interpretation and a full commentary, paying particular attention to the aspects of staging and poetical shape (models, metrics, style).

Type of delivery of the course

The course (36 hours - 6 CFU) will be imparted in the second semester; it will be comprehensive of a training in plautine metrics.

Attendance

Attendance, although not strictly mandatory, is warmly recommended.

Type of evaluation

Oral exam (reading in latin with metre identification, translation and commentary of passages of Plautus' Amphitruo; queries about history and problems of early latin comedy).
