21810600 - HISTORY OF WOMEN AND GENDER IN THE CONTEMPORARY AGE

The course aims at achieving the instruments needed to read critically the women’s conditions, the development of male and female identities, and the setting of gender relations between the 19th and 20th Centuries.

Assuming the gender point of view as the main analysis criterion, the moments of crisis and of identity redefinition, both for women and men, will be identified together with the roles assumed by them in the public and private spheres.

Programme

The acquisition of tools for understanding the women’s conditions and the gender relations will be carried out through a programme divided in two parts.
In the first one the analysis of the steps that marked the development of the European women’s identity and the struggle to achieve the objectives of freedom and democracy will be carried out. In the second part the same topics will be analysed in relation to men and to some historical junctions, like the economic and cultural crisis and the wars.

The course consists of frontal lessons with audiovisual aids. Lessons are the means to acquire the fundamental knowledge needed to achieve the training objectives.

Attendance

Frequency is not mandatory but recommended, taking into account the interactive elements of the lessons and the exposition of audiovisual documents.

Type of evaluation

The evaluation is based on a oral test about the topics treated in the texts recommended in the syllabus, in order to verify the knowledge of topics, clarity of exposition and synthesis ability.
