The aim of the course is the acquisition of specialised knowledge of Italian Renaissance literature, through the in-depth study of an author, a work or a specific theme according to the most up-to-date research perspectives. At the end of the course, students will be equipped with the most appropriate historical, historical-literary and linguistic interpretative tools for analysing Renaissance literary texts and will be able to apply advanced analytical methodologies to them.

Throughout the course, the world of storytellers in its various forms will be explored through a series of key cases from the most beloved narrative genre among audiences of all social levels—chivalric literature—linked to some of the most important figures in the literary history of the Renaissance: Luigi Pulci, Angelo Poliziano, Niccolò Machiavelli, Matteo Maria Boiardo, Ludovico Ariosto.

Programme
Between the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, storytelling could be entrusted to very different kinds of figures: from performers who entertained crowds in town squares and fairs, to the great intellectuals of the courts.
