Programme

Bertolt Brecht, Italian theatre, directing and dramaturgy
After an introduction focused on the relationships between theatre culture and the culture of the texts, as they have emerged in the history of theatre, especially in the 20th century, the course will observe how these themes have condensed around the idea of directing, through individual stories and concrete examples drawn from the Italian and European contexts. We will then look in particular at the relationship between writing and theatrical practice in the work of Bertolt Brecht, focusing on certain aspects of its reception in Italy, and on the interplay between practices of textual adaptation and ideas of direction.
