The student will address one or more specialist topics. An example of an in-depth analysis of an author or a relevant theme of Italian literature will be proposed, according to the most up-to-date research perspectives. Students will acquire the necessary hermeneutic tools for the analysis of texts and the application to them of the most appropriate technical methodologies (analysis of metric or narrative structures), in the framework of a suitable preparatory course for advanced literary study.

Programme
The course aims to examine the relationship and the mutual influences that exist between the linguistic dimension and that of discursive traditions. After clarifying the origin and subsequent developments of the concept of discursive tradition (a notion developed in German-language historical-linguistic studies from the 1980s onwards, which subsequently spread internationally), the course will examine 1) various types of discursive genres from the Middle Ages to the modern era, to highlight how, alongside linguistic regularities, there exists a vast field of discursive regularities that guide and shape the way in which discourses are historically conceived and produced; 2) the field of formulaic language, in which discursive tradition and individual language are inextricably linked. Among the genres considered during the course, the following will be examined: treatises on painting, octave-verse ballads on current events, printed notices, and eighteenth-century gazettes.Core Documentation
