The course is divided into two parts.
The first part is designed to provide the conceptual and theoretical foundations necessary for understanding the main topics of environmental economics, with a focus on analyzing the interactions between human activities and the environment and their consequences. Topics covered include methods for environmental valuation, environmental externalities, and the management of public goods. Students will develop an understanding of the economic theory tools used to address these issues, including both command-and-control and market-based environmental policies. The course will also examine issues related to both static and dynamic environmental sustainability.
The second part focuses on specific thematic areas of environmental economics that are particularly relevant for the application of the tools introduced in the first part of the course. These topics will be explored in greater depth and discussed with students during lectures, drawing on the concepts and analytical frameworks previously introduced to ensure a more accurate understanding of the issues under consideration. Practical exercises related to each thematic area will also be provided.
