The Prognosticum futuri saeculi by Julian of Toledo (ca. 640-690)
second semester
This monographic module focuses on the analysis of the Prognosticum futuri saeculi, the most important work by Julian of Toledo, one of the greatest theologians of the 7th century. Drawing on the text, considered the first systematic treatise on Christian eschatology, the module will explore, through reference to the author's sources, the development of a reflection—on the ultimate destiny of humankind—that engaged not only philosophers and theologians but influenced many aspects of life, mentality, and imagination in the late antique and medieval world. The module will also include exercises aimed at guiding students' understanding and critical use of key digital resources for the study and research of medieval Latin authors.
